We very often hear,

“There is no such thing as ‘good skin,’ must be hereditary.”

“Such flawless skin… must be the magic of skin supplements.”

“Oh, it is all about hormones. Good hormones at this age are the reason behind this beautiful skin.”

Yes, so how many of you are making all these excuses? All these excuses come from laziness and unwillingness to give 100% for your skin.

You can always go to a dermatologist for issues you cannot control. But you can follow some primary dos and don’ts to avoid many skin-related problems.

I am going to share TEN skincare mistakes that you unknowingly commit.

These might seem like minuscule mistakes, but by just avoiding these mistakes, you will give your skin a precious gift: long-lasting healthy skin.

So without further dilly-dallying, let’s get into the skincare mistakes!

Table Of Contents:

Tip 1: Not Sleeping Clean

One of the major mistakes that most of you do not realize is a mistake. If you do not wash your face before bed, please do not expect to wake up with flawless skin.

The skin and body repair themselves while you sleep. The entire healing process of the skin takes place while your body rests.

So, sleeping with your makeup or not washing your face after a long day can hinder this healing process. Now is the time to make it a point to wash your face before bed.

Tip 2: Not Staying Hydrated

The first thing that comes to our mind on hearing the word ‘hydration’ is water. Let me tell you, keeping yourself hydrated does not exclusively mean drinking lots and lots of water.

To keep your skin hydrated, eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Also, take care of your liquid diet. Keep a keen eye on your caffeine intake.

If your caffeine intake is high, no matter how many fruits and vegetables you eat, your body will remain dehydrated.

Tip 3: Not Sleeping Well Enough

This is a mistake that most of us commit unknowingly. Observe your skin after a sweet sleep. You will see your skin looks happy and fresh.

But what happens when you get too little sleep? The tiredness of insufficient sleep will reflect on your skin in the form of dark circles, acne, or pigmentation.

To get proper sleep, you need to make provisions. If reading a book puts you to sleep, go for it! Do whatever it takes for a good night’s sleep.

Tip 4: Unhygienic Conditions

Did you know that the mobile phone you never get separated from is currently the dirtiest thing on the planet?

You take your phone everywhere with you collecting germs, and then the surface of that phone touches your face when you attend a call. Another example is the pillow.

Make sure that you periodically change your pillowcases or flip your pillow. It is the surface your face comes in contact with for many hours while you sleep.

Also, use a clean towel for your face.

Tip 5: Not Cleansing Well

Most of us do not think much about the techniques and methods of washing our faces. It has become as monotonous as washing hands before the pandemic hit us.

While washing your face, clean thoroughly around the nose and chin. Be thoughtful when washing your face to avoid deposition around the nose and darkening around the mouth.

Clean every possible corner of your face as nicely as possible!

Tip 6: Avoid Touching Your Face Unnecessarily

You do not realize this, but when you touch your face, you push all the dirt and pollution into your skin, which further creates issues.

Also, DO NOT POP OR TOUCH YOUR PIMPLES! Touching or popping pimples can leave marks on your face that might last forever.

So consider me a spokesperson for your skin, and please keep your hands to yourself!

Tip 7: Not Washing Sebum

The oil present on your face is called sebum. It can be considerable trouble for your face if you let it settle for a long time.

Your skin expels all unwanted things in the form of oil, making it crucial to wash your face in the morning. Be attentive about your T-zone because it is the oiliest part of the face.

If you do not wash off the sebum from your face, it will get absorbed in the skin pores and cause pimples.

Tip 8: Not Applying Sunscreen

Many people are surprised when I tell them they should never skip sunscreen as it is a chemical-based product.

See, sunscreen has now become a necessity in the changing environment. Sun’s UV radiations are getting stronger, which is very harmful to the skin.

Sun damage can cause severe issues like skin cancer as well. I request all you beautiful people to invest in good sunscreen and protect yourself.

Tip 9: Product Duration

By product duration, I mean the period you use a particular product. Avoid using the same kind of product for a very long time or a short period.

For example, you get a bottle of facewash, and you love it dearly. Continue using the same facewash for some time (2-3 months), but not more than that.

If your face gets used to a particular product brand, it might stop showing results. And if one day you decide to switch, it can cause trouble.

Your face might reject the new brand completely, causing complications. It is best to keep changing the products periodically.

Tip 10: Cotton Pads For Toners

The thinnest product in our skincare is toner. It has a watery consistency, so it is best to apply it by hand.

Firstly, cotton absorbs toner. Secondly, it can be harsh on your face. Well, teenagers might disagree with me on the second point, but people above 30 will agree.

It is because of the difference in the texture of the skin. So to avoid the conflict, I suggest using the toners that come in spray bottles.

You can spray it on your face and tap gently for the pores to absorb.
