How Do You Make Anti-Aging Toner At Home?

Ageing is a natural process, and its signs can vary from person to person. The skin is one of the most noticeable areas where signs of ageing become apparent.

These ageing are due to a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.

This DIY anti-ageing toner will help tackle signs of ageing like wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and other issues. But do remember, signs of ageing are common with age!

Do not let these signs define who you are. Love yourself, but do not hesitate to do what you want for yourself!

Table Of Contents:

Understanding Sings of Aging

Common indications of skin ageing include:

1]. Wrinkles:

  • They occur due to collagen and elastin production reduction, which causes the skin to lose its elasticity and firmness.

2]. Sagging Skin:

  • As the skin's support structures weaken, it can begin to droop, leading to the development of jowls, drooping eyelids, and a less defined jawline.

3]. Age Spots:

  • Also known as liver spots or sun spots, age spots are flat, brown, or greyish patches that appear on areas of the skin exposed to the sun.

  • They are the result of accumulated sun damage over the years.

4]. Uneven Skin Tone:

  • Skin can become unbalanced in colour and texture because of sun exposure, scarring, and other environmental factors.

  • Uneven pigmentation and skin tone can make the skin appear older.

5]. Loss of Skin Elasticity:

  • Reduced elastin production causes the skin to lose its ability to "snap back," which can contribute to sagging and the formation of wrinkles.

6]. Thinner Skin:

  • Ageing can lead to a reduction in the thickness of the skin, making it more fragile and susceptible to damage.

7]. Pores Enlargement:

  • Pores may appear larger with age, particularly in areas with more oil production.

8]. Texture Changes:

  • The skin's texture may change and become rougher or more uneven.

9]. Dryness and Dehydration:

  • The skin may become drier and lose moisture with age, making it prone to flakiness and a dull appearance.

What Is A Toner And What Does It Do For The Skin?

Toner is a skincare product that is typically applied after cleansing the skin and before moisturizing the skin.

It offers several benefits for the skin:

1]. Hydration:

  • Many toners contain hydrating ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and herbal extracts.

  • These ingredients help to replenish and retain moisture in the skin, leaving it feeling more hydrated and supple.

2]. Tightens Pores:

  • Some toners contain astringent properties that can temporarily tighten and minimize the appearance of pores.

  • It can give your skin a smoother and more refined look.

3]. Prepping the Skin:

  • Toner preps the skin to absorb the subsequent skincare products better, such as serums and moisturizers.

4]. Balancing pH:

  • It aids in reestablishing the pH balance of the skin, which can be upset by using harsh cleansers or tap water.

It's important to note that not all toners are the same, and there are various types of toners available, including hydrating toners, astringent toners, and exfoliating toners, among others. We are going to prepare an anti-ageing toner using only natural ingredients!

Ingredients:

Before starting the preparation of the toner, understand the properties and magical benefits of the ingredients:

  • Green tea is rich in antioxidants, which can help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body.

  • Free radicals can accelerate the aging process by causing oxidative damage to cells, proteins, and DNA.

  • Green tea may help improve the health and appearance of the skin.

  • Topical application and consumption of green tea have associated benefits such as reduced signs of ageing, including wrinkles and fine lines.

  • Green tea may help preserve collagen, a protein that provides structural support to the skin.

  • Collagen production decreases with age, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin.

  • Tea tree oil's anti-inflammatory properties may help soothe irritated or inflamed skin.

  • Chronic inflammation is associated with skin ageing, and using products that reduce inflammation can help maintain a more youthful appearance.

  • Tea tree oil contains antioxidants that can help neutralize free radicals, which can damage skin cells and accelerate the ageing process.

  • It can serve as a natural cleanser, helping to remove dirt, excess oil, and impurities from the skin, thus maintaining the overall health of the skin.

You can use lavender or peppermint essential oil if your skin is dry. You can choose which essential oil to use based on your skin type. You can add another essential oil for fragrance. But do not add more than two essential oils.

And that is it! Yes, these two ingredients are enough to fight the signs of ageing and give your skin a youthful glow.

Preparation of the Toner

Follow these easy steps to prepare the toner:

STEP 1: Add two cups of water to a pan. You can use tap water. Use drinking water if you get a hard water supply.

STEP 2: Add two tablespoons of green tea or 3-4 saches of green tea bags. You can open the bags and transfer the tea directly into water. Cover the pan and let it boil. Boil it till only half a cup of decoction remains.

STEP 3: Once boiled, strain the decoction in a small bowl and let it cool.

STEP 4: Add 4-5 drops of tea tree oil to the decoction.

STEP 5: Stir the mix.

STEP 6: Store the toner in a spray bottle.

Your toner is ready for usage. This toner will help to bring your skin back to its normal texture. It will help you fight any skin problems and give you a youthful glow.

Application of the Toner

Toner is the second step of every skincare routine. So start with washing your face using your face wash. Pat dry and then apply the toner.

Spray the toner directly on your face and neck and gently massage it so that it seeps into the skin.

Q/A

Can children use this toner?

Replace essential oil with rose water to make it suitable for children. Children's skin is sensitive and at a building stage. Essential oil can be too powerful for their delicate skin.

It can last for 2-3 weeks at room temperature. But as the climate varies from place to place, try to refrigerate the toner. Try to store it in a cold and dry place.

Are there any side effects?

There are no side effects of this toner. But, if your skin is sensitive, take a patch test before application.

Is it suitable for all skin types?

Yes! Those who have extremely sensitive skin should take a patch test.
